Skills Development Series
Friday, June 11 – Sunday June 13, 2021
Mite age – Bantam will be challenged to take their game to a higher level. Players will spend time during each session working on the most important aspects of the game … SKATING, PASSING & SHOOTING! Emphasis will be placed on stepping outside the “comfort zone” to challenge players. Station-based and age appropriate drills will be incorporated to include, but not limited to: Power Skating, Edge Control, Cross-Overs, Direct, Indirect & Area Passes, and shooting techniques to include the Forehand, Backhand, Flip, and when appropriate, Snap and Slap.
Included: 4.5 hours (4 sessions) of ice-time over a 3-day period & a Top Shelf Hockey Practice Jersey
PLAYER Instructors for the 3-day, skill development focused camp will include, but are not limited to: Top Shelf Coaches who have worked with youth, high school & college players!
- Brian Wierson – Former High School Coach of Ames Little Cyclones and 2017 Coach of the Year Recipient (MHSHL). Brian has worked extensively with high-level players both at the Minnesota high school level as well as with Cyclone Hockey and now with AMHA in central Iowa. Since 2015, Brian has owned and operated Top Shelf Hockey clinics and teams to provide opportunities to RAISE THE BAR!
- Andrew Murdoch – A native of Gilbert, IA, with roots that run deep into Canada, Andrew played youth hockey with AMHA. While in High School, he ventured off to play Jr. hockey in Brandon, MB and also Sweden. Upon completion of High School, Andrew had a stellar career with Cyclone Hockey where he starred for four seasons. Andrew then spent two seasons coaching with the Cyclone Hockey team. He has traveled all over the world playing and coaching hockey, all to bring him back to his own roots and AMHA where he has helped coach at the youth levels for the past 4 seasons.
- Brendan Sheehan – Former Iowa State Division lll Head Coach, High School Coach of Ames Little Cyclones and recipient of the 2013 American Collegiate Hockey Association [ACHA] Men’s Division 3 Greg Stathis Coach-of-the-Year Award. Brendan has spent time working with development programs in the Mid-West at the High School, Double A, Triple A, Junior and Colligate levels. Brendan’s accomplishments include working a variety of USA Hockey camps over the years. He served as a team leader at the USA Hockey Bantam Select Camp in Ames in 2009, 2010, and 2011, as an intern coach at the National Player Development Camps, and as an evaluator for the USA Hockey Central District.
